What a glorious night
with the mountains took sight
grey daggers cut the sky
shine off the moon
the heartbeats and lead
cannons pounding in their heads
broken bodies and dead
washed on the shore
as the years passed them by
the ship swallowed by tides
the cold winter nights
held by a fire
and the faces and names
tore apart at the seams
leaving blank memories
to fill their books
in the day they were fine
living off the fruits and the vines
but the nighttime grew cold
on the ground
the same questions bite tongues
of the old and the young
