On these late summer nights

and the people go home to comfortable beds

you grab a cigarette and stare at the sky
your eyes look tired and you let out a sigh
the culmination of too much beer and contemplation for a Saturday night
we sit out on a bench, straining our eyes
to see some stars up, in the sky
but most are blocked out
by the light pollution,
